How to make bra straps shorter on a finished bra
Two years ago I did a blog about shortening the bra strap with a bra already made/bought, and I attempted doing a video which took far too long and too waffley ( I know you are thinking - what Laurie you talking too much about lingerie?)
So now I’ve finally done a video and show you two examples of how to shorten your straps.
Note though *If you have a front and back strap it is the back strap you will need to chop (so the second method as if you cut the front then the ring from the front shoulder strap will sit on the top of the shoulder and dig in.
First method of making a bra strap shorter
It’s dead easy:
If you have rings at the front of your bra then cut the strap through the ring then cut approx 7-10cm off.
That might sound a lot but if your straps are too long then this doesn’t amount to too much considering the strap will fold over on itself in the slider.
With this method you will need thread to match your strap colour.
Second Method of making bra strap shorter
Bring the slider up on the strap about 1/2 way on your strap.
Turn your bra over so you see the back of the strap.
Pull the top part of the strap up and away from the slider so its not lying flat, you will have a loop.
Chop off the inner part of the strap where it is threaded through the slider, remove that bit you’ve chopped off and then cut off another further 7-10cm (approx) off the strap.
Re-thread the strap through the slider (the top loop of the strap will give you space to do so), you want to go up over the slider bar and down so that the end piece is in between the outer and inner strap (so the strap end will face you).
With the strap still up in a loop, sew down the end of the strap you have just threaded and folded, to the strap next to it to secure the slider on.
Pull the top loop back down and your strap is now shorter
Trim off any thread to neaten maybe saying “ta-da” as you finish.
* You don’t need thread to match the strap colour as the sewing will be hidden when you wear the bra on the body.
